The Sermon to the Birds is one of the most well-known stories about Saint Francis of Assisi. It shows his deep love for all of God’s creation and his humility in sharing the Gospel with every creature. While traveling through the Spoleto Valley, Francis came upon a large group of birds, including doves and crows. Moved with joy and affection, he walked toward them. Instead of flying away, the birds remained still, which greatly delighted him. Francis greeted them gently and invited them to listen to the Word of God.
